Extended information note on the use of cookies

The climatech.at website uses cookies and similar technologies in order to guarantee the correct operation of the procedures and improve the experience of the use of on-line applications. This document provides detailed information on the use of cookies and similar technologies, on how they are used by Clima Tech and on how to manage them.

Definitions

Cookies are brief fragments of text (letters and/or numbers) which allow the web server (the browser) to memorize information on the client to reuse during the visit to the site itself (session cookie) or afterwards, even days later (persistent cookies). Depending on the user’s preferences, cookies are memorized by the individual browser on the specific device used (computer, tablet, smartphone).

Similar technologies such as, for example, web beacons, transparent GIF and all forms of local storage introduced with HTML5, can be used for gathering information on the user’s behaviour and on the use of the services.

Further on in this document we will make reference to cookies and all similar technologies by simply using the term “cookie”.

Cookie types

We can distinguish various categories on the basis of the characteristics and use of the cookies:

  • Strictly necessary cookies. These are cookies that are indispensable for correct operation of the Clima Tech site and are used for managing the login and access to the reserved functions of the site. The lifespan of the cookies is strictly limited to the work sessions (they are deleted when the browser is closed).
  • Analysis and performance cookies. These cookies are used for gathering and analysing the traffic and use of the site in an anonymous manner. While not identifying the user, these cookies make it possible, for example, to note if the same user reconnects on different occasions. They also make it possible to monitor the system and improve its performance and usability. These cookies can be deactivated without any loss of functionality.
  • Profiling cookies. These are permanent cookies that are used for identifying (anonymously and otherwise) the user’s preferences and improving the navigation experience.

Third-party cookies

When visiting a website it is possible to receive cookies from the site visited (“proprietary”), and from sites managed by other organizations “third parties”). A notable example is the presence of “social plugins” for Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and LinkedIn. These refer to parts of the visited page generated directly by the aforesaid sites and integrated into the page of the host site. The most common use of the social plugins is to share the contents on the social networks.

The presence of these plugins entails the transmission of cookies from and to all the sites operated by third parties. Management of the information collected by “third parties” is governed by the associated rules to which reference should be made. To guarantee greater transparency and convenience, the web addresses are provided of the various information statements and procedures for managing the cookies.

Google Analytics

The Clima Tech site also includes some components transmitted by Google Analytics, a traffic analysis service provided by Google Inc. (“Google”). In this case too these third-party cookies are collected and managed in an anonymous manner in order to monitor and improve the performance of the host site (performance cookies).

Google Analytics uses the cookies for collecting and analysing the information on the use of the Clima Tech website (including the user’s IP address) in an anonymous form. This information is gathered by Google Analytics, which processes it in order to draw up reports for Clima Tech operators regarding activities on the websites themselves. This site does not use (and does not allow third parties to use) Google’s analytical tool for tracking or collecting personal identification information. Google does not associate the IP address with any datum held by it nor does it attempt to connect an IP address with a user’s identity. Google may disclose such information to third parties where this is imposed by the law or where such third parties process the aforesaid information on behalf of Google.

Lifespan of the cookies

Some cookies (session cookies) only stay active until the browser is closed or until the execution of a log-out command. Other cookies “survive” after the browser has been closed and remain available even during later visits by the user.

These cookies are called persistent and their life is fixed by the server at the moment of creation. An expiry is fixed in some cases while it is unlimited in other ones.

does not make used of persistent cookies.

Attention: total or partial disabling of technical cookies can compromise the site functions reserved for registered users. Nevertheless the usability of the public content is possible even when the cookies are disabled completely.

Disabling “third-party” cookies does not affect navigability in any way.

It is possible to define settings specifically for different sites and web applications. Furthermore the best browsers make it possible to define different settings for “proprietary” cookies and third-party ones.

Using the menu,  Tools->Options->Privacy in Firefox for example, it is possible to access a control panel where it is possible to decide whether or not to accept the various type of cookies and remove them.
